The following information is about the HINZ/HINTZ families in North America as descended from Friedrich and Christine Charlotte (Maschke) Hinz from Rummelsburg Pomerania.

Much of the information on the families of Julius and August Hinz in Wisconsin was found online and in the book “Family of Henrich Herritz” by Monica Herritz (2004).

Thank you to Donna Lange of ELCA for providing church record entries from Zion Lutheran Stone Church in Sauk County, Wisconsin.

Thank you to Charles Daniel Davisson, retired USAF, for assistance with the translation of German-language historical documents to English.

Thank you to James Ide of Illinois and his father Robert, of Colorado, who provided significant information on the family of Helen Margaret (Hintz) Ide, daughter of Berthold Charles Hintz.

Thank you to Faith Wolbers, Assistant Director at the Coloma Public Library for information on Roy G. Leedy.

Thank you to Patti Duncan in the Records Department at Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Funeral Home and Mausoleum in Portland, Oregon.

Thank you to Hannah Allan, Research Assistant at the Oregon Historical Society for information regarding the Hinz and Gast families that relocated to Oregon.

Some of what is presented is taken from information received from the late Inger Warman Richcreek. No date appears on the original papers she sent, but the year 1969 is mentioned within the contents as the time of writing.

Some events have been reconstructed in family and chronological order, by Mrs. Roland (Dorothy) Hintz in January 2005. Roland as a grandson of Gustave Hinz, who was a son of Friedrich August Hinz.

Some events and history have been relayed from written and oral accounts by Amelia (Hintz) Whitinger. Amelia is the youngest daughter of Kenneth Carl Hintz and is a grand daughter of Gustave Hinz.

Other data was discovered online in federal and state census records, the Social Security Death Index, and other databases found on familysearch.com and ancestry.com (among other sources).

There have been multiple instances where the Hinz name and the Hintz name have been changed to or from each other. Research has verified that each name contained is a part of the family descended from Friedrich and Christine Charlotte (Maschke) Hinz. Therefore, names used in this history have been entered as found on the respective discovery documents for each respective person. The spelling of each name may change within a given summary as I am attempting to retain the integrity of the sources for future genealogical research.

This compilation of family history is an ongoing endeavor. If you have verifiable corrections to any mistakes in my findings, or information you wish to share, please contact me at the email address provided below.
