Chapter 2:  The Family of John Hunt and Ida Viola (Keyser) Morgan

Emory Otis Morgan was born near Wyatt, St. Joseph County, Indiana on August 25, 1882.  His parents divorced when he was four years old.  Emory is listed as a day laborer in the 1900 U. S. Census while living with his father, step-mother, and half brother Oscar in Bremen, Indiana.  He married Daisy McClain on June 25, 1909 in Indianapolis, Indiana.  Emory and Daisy appear in the 1910 census living on North Pennsylvania Avenue in Indianapolis.  Their first daughter, Ethel, was born in Indianapolis on January 1, 1912.  Emory O. Morgan appears in the Indianapolis city directories in 1913, 1914 and 1915, living at different addresses each year.  He does not appear in the 1916 city directory.  Emory's World War I draft card indicates the family moved to the South Bend, Indiana around 1917.  The 1920 census shows Emory, Daisy, three daughters, and a son living at 1607 Michigan Street in South Bend.  Emory is listed as a Laborer/Carpenter on that census.  In the 1940 census, Emory, Daisy, and their son John, are listed living on Meadow Brook Avenue in Roseland,Indiana.  Emory is listed as an Elevator operator in a bank building.  Emory died at 7:03 p. m. on August 12, 1968 in South Bend after being hit by a pickup truck while crossing U. S. 31 near his home.  He was reported heading for the local grocerey store when struck.  The driver of the truck was not cited for any violations.  Orvis Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.  After funeral services, held at the funeral home and officiated by Rev. Dean Freed of the Forestbrook United Missionary Church, Emory was buried in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Mishawaka, Indiana. [1]
 
Daisy McClain - wife of Emory Otis Morgan
Daisy McClain was born on July 1, 1887 to Donald and Sarah E. McClain near Indianapolis, Indiana.  The 1900 U. S. Census lists her living with her parents, sister Stella, and brothers Eli and Paul McClain in Clark Township, Johnson County, Indiana.  Daisy married Emory Otis Morgan in Indianapolis on June 25, 1909.  She and Emory raised three daughters and a son.  Daisy died in February of 1969 in South Bend, Indiana and was buried next to Emory in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Mishawaka, Indiana. Ethel Hazel Morgan was born January 1, 1912 near Indianapolis, Indiana.  On October 2, 1929, in South Bend, she married Archie H. DePeel.  She raised five daughters.  Two sons were also born to the family but they did not survive more than a couple of days.  Ethel worked until 1975 when she retired as assistant cook at the Paul Stephen Nursing Home.  She was a member of Niles-Buchanan Senior Citizens and Bertrand Bible Church.  Ethel Hazel Morgan DePeel died at 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 1994 in Pawating Hospital.  Mrs. DePeel's Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Pifer-Smith Funeral Home in Niles, Michigan.  Burial was in Silverbrook Cemetery, in Niles. Archie Howard DePeel - husband of Ethel Hazel Morgan
Archie Howard DePeel was born to Harvey and Rosa McPherson DePeel on August 28, 1908 in Lodi, Kalkaska, Michigan.  Archie died on Thursday, October 31, 1974 in Niles, Michigan.  Funeral services were held on the following Monday at the Pifer Chapel of Swem-Smith Funeral Home.  Archie was buried in Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.       +Zigmont Stanley "Ray" Heinrich: 10 Mar 1906 - 6 Jun 1994

Gladys Leona Morgan was born March 24, 1914 in Indiana.  She married Zigmont Stanley Heinrich.  Gladys died in her home on December 25, 1999 from natural causes.  Her remains were cremated.  The Hoven Funeral Home in Buchanan, Michigan was in charge of all arrangements. [5]

Zigmont Stanley "Ray" Heinrich - husband of Ethel Hazel Morgan
Zigmont Stanley "Ray" Heinrich was born on March 10, 1906 in South Bend, Indiana.  He married Gladys Leona Morgan in South Bend on December 2, 1933.  Ray worked for the Studebaker Corporation for forty-six years.  When he died on June 6, 1994 in Niles, Michigan, his remains were cremated.  The Hoven Funeral Home in Buchanan, Michigan was in charge of all arrangements. John E. Morgan was born November 28, 1916 in Indiana.  On February 28, 1941, he married Lauretta "Lucille" Hershberger.  John worked for the Bendix Corporation's aviation department, retiring in 1981.  He was a member of the U.A.W. Union Local #9 and Forestbrook Missionary Church.  After Lucille died, he married Betty L. Hein in South Bend on May 21, 1983.  Betty died on December 29, 2000.  John died in his home on June 12, 2001.  Services were held on June 16 at the Bubb Funeral Home in Mishawaka with the Rev. Ronald Drake, of Forestbrook Missionary Church, officiating.  Burial followed in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Mishawaka. [7]

Lauretta "Lucille" Hershberger - wife of John E. Morgan
Lauretta "Lucille" Hershberger was born on February 13, 1923 in South Bend, Indiana.  She married John E. Morgan in South Bend on February 28, 1941.  Together, they raised a daughter and two sons.  Lauretta died in Memorial Hospital in South Bend on July 21, 1981 after a lengthy illness.  Services were held on July 22 at the Forestbrook Missionary Church with the Rev. Ronald Drake officiating.  Burial followed in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Mishawaka. [8]

Betty Louise (Vinson) Hein - second wife of John E. Morgan
Betty Louise Vinson was born on October 14, 1920 to Charles C. and Ida May (Bonta) Vinson.  She married Athur V. Hein.  Arthur died in 1981.  On May 21, 1983 she married John E. Morgan in South Bend.  Betty died in the Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center in South Bend on Friday, December 29, 2000.  Services were held on January 2nd at the Bubb Funeral Chapel North.  She was buried next to her first husband, Arthur, in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Mishawaka [9]

 
Myrtle Ruth Morgan (Generation 3)

Myrtle Ruth Morgan was born January 1, 1912 in Indiana.  On December 25, 1936 she married Dale E. Zimmer in Roseland, Indiana.  They raised two sons.  Ruth died on Friday, August 29, 2008 in Elkhart General Hospital.  Services were held the following Tuesday at Zimmerman-Inman Funeral Home in Osceola, Indiana with burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Dale E. Zimmer - husband of Myrtle Ruth Morgan
Dale E. Zimmer was born on August 22, 1912 in Osceola, Indiana.  He was a farmer and self-employed landscaper.  Dale died on June 12, 1989.  Services were held on June 14 at the Warner Funeral Home with burial following in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. [11]
