Chapter 1:  The Family of John H. Caplinger

John H. Caplinger was born on October 20, 1859 to Paul and Sarah Caplinger.  He married Beade I. Leffler in 1891.  John was a resident of Marion County his entire life, having lived on farms near the Bridgeport and Friendswood communities.  He died in his home on Sunday afternoon on October 14, 1928.  After servies at the home and at the Friendswood Baptist Church, John was buried in Fairfield Friends Cemetery, Friendswood, Indiana. Beade I. Leffler - wife of John H. Caplinger
Beade I. Leffler was born on May 17, 1866 .  She married John H.Caplinger and raised three daughters and two sons.  Beade died on July 4, 1953 and was buried in Fairfield Friends Cemetery. [2]

Private Charles Caplinger
Charles W. Caplinger was born on May 15, 1893 in Hendricks County, Indiana, to John and Beade Caplinger.  He appears in the 1900 and 1910 census records with the rest of the family.  Charles became a farmer but on September 21, 1917 he entered service to his country at Danville, Indiana.  Charles was sent to Camp Taylor, Kentucky and assigned to Company C, 334th Infantry, then to Company C, 152st Infantry. He was transferrred to Camp Shelby in Mississippi and assigned to the replacement draft.  He deployed to Europe on June 12, 1918 and was assigned to Company F, 165th Infantry, 38th Division.  Private Charles Caplinger was killed in action at Chateau-Thierry, France.  His body was buried at Seringes-et-Nesles, France and a marker was placed in his memory in Fairfield Friends Cemetery, Friendswood, Indiana. Margaret Ellen Caplinger was born to John and Beade Caplinger on September 28, 1894.  She married Durward Cecil Conway on August 15, 1914 in Hendricks County, Indiana.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Speedway Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  Margaret (Caplinger) Conway celebrated her 102nd birthday in 1996.  She died on October 16th, less than one month later.  After services at the Great Hall Chapel in Washington Park North Cemetery in Indianapolis on October 19, Margaret "Madge" Conway was entombed next to her husband. Durward Cecil Conway - husband of Margaret Ellen Caplinger
Durward Cecil Conway was born to Emery and Katie Conway on December 10, 1892 in Madison, Indiana.  He married Margaret Ellen Caplinger in 1914.  Durward Durward was a machinist for the Nordyke & Marmon Compnay until he retired.  He died on January 9, 1970.  After services were held at the Conkle Speedway Funeral Home Durward was buried in Washington Park North Cemetery. Laverne Conway - Generation 3

Laverne Conway was born to Durward and Margaret (Caplinger) Conway on August 8, 1915.  She graduated from George Washington High School in Indianapolis and would attend class reunions up to her 86th.  Laverne married Clyde C. Crafton on April 29, 1939 in Garfield Baptist Church in Indianapolis.  Laverne worked for A. J. Wichmann & Son in her early life.  Laverne then worked for Detroit Diesel Allison in Speedway, Indiana for thirty-two years before retiring in 1974.  In 1989 the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Motel.  Like her mother, Laverne lived to celebrate her 100th birthday.  Laverne Crafton died on October 17, 2018.  She was 103 and two months at the time of her pasing.  and was buried next to her husband in Washington Park North Cemetery. Clyde C. Crafton - husband of Laverne Conway
Clyde C. Crafton was born to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph I. Crafton on October 13, 1912 in Indinapolis.  He married Laverne Conway in 1939.  Clyde was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of the American Legion.  He worked for Eli Lilly & Company for thirty-three years before retiring as a supervisor in 1974.  Clyde was also a member of the Speedway Christian Church, the Murat Shrine and Scottish Rite.  He died on April 2, 2001.  After funeral services were held at the Conkle Funeral Home on April 5, Clyde was buried in Washington Park North Cemetery in Indianapolis. Lloyd Ernest "Pete" Conway was born to Durward and Margaret (Caplinger) Conway on June 29, 1920.  He married Marcella Elizabeth Mock on April 8, 1942.  Lloyd served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War and was a member of the U.S.S. Perkins Alumni Club.  After the wars, Mr. Conway was an electrical supervisor with the FMC/Link Belt comany.  He worked there for forty-one years, retiring in 1982.  Pete, as he was widely known, and Marcella raised a daughter and a son.  They divorced around 1987.  He married Evelyn J. Pitschke in January of 1997.  In April of 2001, Lloyd married Dora F. (Stewart) Marsh.  He was a member of the Linwood Christian Church, the Bridgeport Masonic Lodge #162, Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine Club.  Lloyd was also a member of the Speedway VFW Post #2839, the Marion County Conservation Club, the Link Belt Retirees Breakfast Club and the Elks Lodge in Englewood, Florida.  Lloyd Ernest Conway died on Monday, July 28, 2003 and was entombed next to Evelyn in the mausoleum at Washington Park North Cemetery. Marcella Elizabeth Mock - wife of Lloyd Ernest Conway
Marcella Elizabeth Mock was born to George and Elizabeth Mock on May 25, 1920.  She married Lloyd Conway on April 8, 1942.  Marcella died on Wednesday, September 3, 1987 in the Chase Center in Logansport, Indiana.  After services in the Conkle Speedway Funeral Home, Marcella was buried in Holy Cross and Saint Joseph Cemetery in Indianapolis. [9]
 
Evelyn J. Pitschke - second wife of Lloyd Ernest Conway
Evelyn J. Pitschke was born on January 9, 1921 in Indinapolis.  She married Lloyd Conway in January of 1997.  Evelyn died on January 21, 1997 and was entombed in the mausoleum at Washington Park North Cemetery in Indianapolis. [10]
 
Dora F. Stewart Marsh - third wife of Lloyd Ernest Conway
Dora F. (Stewart) Marsh was the third wife of Lloyd Conway.  She is listed as living in Avon, Indiana when they filed for a marriage license in April of 2001  Dora was listed as his surviving wife in his obituary in 2003.  No other information on Dora F. Stewart has been located at this time. [11]

Mildred Lucille Caplinger was born to John and Beade Caplinger in Bridgeport, Indiana on January 29, 1897.  She married Charles Wilson Bean and they lived in the Mooresville, Indiana area until moving to Englewood, Florida around 1958.  Mildred was a member of the Friendswood Baptist Church.  Mildred died in a hospital in Venice, Florida on Tuesday, November 29, 1983.  Services were held at the Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville on Friay, December 2 afterwhich Mildred was buried next to her husband in Fairfield Friends Cemetery. Charles Wilson Bean was born on May 17, 1866.  He married Mildred Lucille Caplinger.  Charles died on November 29, 1979 and was buried in Fairfield Friends Cemetery. [13]

Agnes Juanita Bean was born to Durward and Margaret (Caplinger) Conway on June 29, 1920 in Friendswood, Indiana.  She married Thomas Irvin Myers on August 12, 1938 and they lived in Danville, Indiana.  After moving to Englewood, Florida, Agnes served fifteen years as the manager of the Englewood Chamber of Commerce.  She was a member of the Englewood United Methodist Church and also volunteered at Englewood Community Hospital.  Agnes died on September 2, 2000 in Englewood.  Funeral services were held on September 5 at Weaver & Randolph Funeral Home in Danville, with the Rev. John Roof officiating.  Aftwards, Agnes was buried next to her husband in Danville South Cemetery, Danville, Indiana. [14]
 
Thomas Irvin Myers - husband of Agnes Juanita Bean
Thomas Irvin Myers was born to Frank and Myrtle (Caldwell) Myers on July 20, 1916 in Piedmont, Missouri.  He married Agnes Juanita Bean in 1938 and they lived in Danville, Indiana where Thomas was a farmer and owned Mac's Implement business for eleven years.  In 1967 they moved to Englewood, Florida, where Thomas was a member of the Englewood United Methodist Church, the Englewood Elks Lodge No. 2378 and the Englewwod Realtors Association.  Thomas died on Monday, October 24, 1983 in Venice, Florida.  Services were held on Wednesday, October 26, in Danville at the Weaver Funeral Home with Dr. F. Michael McClain officiating.  Thomas was buried in Danville South Cemetery. [15]

Leonard Dale Bean was born in 1921 in Moorseville, Indiana.  He was a building contractor there for thirty years before retiring.  Leonard was a member of the Friendswood Baptist Church.  He moved to Bainbridge Island, Washington.  Leonard Dale Bean died on April 25, 1982 in Harrison Hospital in Bremerton, Washington.  After graveside services Leonard was buried in Fairfield Friends Cemetery, Friendswood, Indiana. Lola Alda Francis was born on May 17, 1866 .  She married Russell Lefler Caplinger.  Lola died on April 29, 1989 and was buried in Fairfield Friends Cemetery. [19]

John Russell Caplinger was born to Russell and Lola Caplinger around 1941.  He graduated from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina and then worked in the building projects industry for twenty-seven years.  John married Mary Anne Unknown.  He was a member and past president of the American HArdboard Association.  John also served as the executive director fo the Wilkes Economic Development Commission in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina.  John Russell Caplinger died on March 21, 1991 and was buried in North Carolina.
