Harriett Louise DePeel was born on April 12, 1864 in Michigan.  On October 4, 1879, Harriett was married to Myron B. Corey and was mother to their three children; Claud, Jessie, and William Corey.  After Myron died in 1914, Harriet married Frank C. Bair in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  After suffering a fifth stroke, Harriet died on August 12, 1939 and was buried in the Clarence Center Cemetery in Calhoun County, Michigan next to Myron. 

In 1970, Harriett's grandson, Myron C. McDonald, published his memoirs of life growing up with his grandmother.  That manuscript was later edited and published by Dorothy May Mercer as "He Called Her 'Hat': That Tough Little Lady, My Grandmother" (ISBN 1623290007) and is currently available from select online bookstores. Myron Benedict Corey - first husband of Harriett Louise DePeel
Myron Benedict Corey was born on October 10, 1852 to Justin and Lucy Corey in Calhoun County, Michigan.  Myron grew up to inherit his father's farm.  On October 4, 1879, Myron married Adeline DePeel.  He was the father of their three children, Claud, Jessie and William Corey.  Myron was a farmer with the exception of a few years when he ran a general store at Duck Lake.  In 1913 Myron suffered from cancer.  Family memoirs tell that he was in a coma for about three months before he died at his home on Thursday morning, February 26, 1914.  Services were held the following Saturday and Myron was buried in the Clarence Center Cemetery in Calhoun County, Michigan. Frank Cornelius Bair - second husband of Harriett Louise DePeel
Frank Cornelius Bair was born on October 20, 1885 to Daniel and Amy Bair in Springport, Michigan.  Frank was hired as a farm hand on the Corey farm to help with the chores when Myron began his spiral of health.  After Myron died, Frank and Hattie (DePeel) Corey married in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  That ceremony took place on October 23, 1916.  Frank and Hattie lived on the Corey farm until her death in 1939.  Frank's World War II draft card indicates he was still there in 1942, but no details of his life after that have been located.  Frank died on February 16, 1963 and was buried in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte, Eaton County, Michigan. Claud M. Corey was born in Springport, Michigan on January 31, 1882.  After graduating from Albion College in Albion, Michigan, Claud moved to Iowa and became a salesman for the St. Louis Hat Co. and the Berlin Glove Co. of Berlin, Wisconsin.  In 1905 he married Lodema Liesenberg, who later became a regionally acclaimed, and somewhat famous, actress.  But that marriage ended in divorce and Claud later married Mae Janette Deiggle/Deizzle (last name spelling conflicts in various online historical records).  Claud and Mae had two daughters, Loretta and Claudia.  He was a member of the Elks, Shriners and the Clinton Consistory.  Claud also served as a master of the Masonic Lodge in Algona, Iowa and was a senior deacon at the state office of the Masonic Lodge.  He was a member of the Church of Christ, Scientists.  Claud died on Monday, June 15, 1970 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines following a three-month illness.  His body was cremated. Lodema Liesenberg - wife of Claud M. Corey
Lodema Liesenberg was born to Mr. and Mrs. John Leiesenberg on August 31, 1888 in Iowa.  For many years, her family was in the cigar business in Charles City, Iowa.  On October 4, 1905, Lodema married Claud M. Corey at her parent's home in Charles City.  The marriage lasted only a few years.  After her divorce from Claud, Lodema became a regionally acclaimed actress under the name Lodema Corey, and later Lodema Corey-Clem.  Lodema died in Kansas City, Missouri on August 17, 1966 and was buried near her parents in Elmwood Saint Joseph Cemetery, in Mason City, Iowa. Mae Janette Deiggle - second wife of Claud M. Corey
Mae Janette Deiggle was born in Iowa around 1897.  She married Claud Corey and was the mother of Loretta, and Claudia Corey.  Mae died in Waukesha, Wisconsin in 1987 and was buried in Pinelawn Memorial Park.  Her gravesite is near that of her daughter Claudia. [6]

Loretta May Corey was born to Claud and May Corey on May 19, 1918 in Iowa.  She married Lyle Wilke Clark on June 28, 1941 in Cheyenne, Wyoming and they had a daughter.  Loretta died in September of 1998. [7]

Claudia Louise Corey was born on May 3, 1924.  She married Richard Gordon Gibson and they had a son and two daughters.  Claudia died in 2003 and was buried in Pinelawn Memorial Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. [7]

Richard Gordon Gibson was born on May 12, 1927.  He married Claudia Louise Corey.  Richard was a certified public accountant.  He died on July 25, 2008 and was buried next to Claudia in Pinelawn Memorial Park. [8]

Jessie May Corey was born in Springport, Michigan on February 18, 1884.  She married George C. McDonald and they had two daughters and a son.  Jessie was a member of the Birthday Club and the Senior Citizens Club in Springport, as well as the Golden Wedding Club of Jackson.  Jessie May McDonald died on Sunday, July 19, 1970 in Eaton Rapids Commuinty HJospital.  She was buried next to George in Clarence Center Cemetery. George C. McDonald - husband of Jessie May Corey
George C. McDonald was born in Michigan in 1880.  He was the father of Altha, Myron, and Norma McDonald.  George was a baker and a grocer in Springport.  He died after a sudden illness at his home near Springport on Tuesday, August 18, 1953.  George was buried in Clarence Center Cemetery. [12]

Altha May McDonald was born to George and Jessie May (Corey) McDonald in Lansing, Michigan on August 18, 1904.  She married Lloyd E. Mercer on November 2, 1924 and they had two sons and a daughter.  Altha served in various village goverment posts over the years.  She served as the village clerk, succeeding her husband, who held the post for twenty-three years.  She also served as a regional correspondent for area newspapers, including the Battle Creek Enquirer.  Altha M. Mercer died on Sunday, June 28, 1998 in Eaton Rapids, Michigan.  No visitation was held but services were performed by her daughter-in-law, the Rev. Dorothy Mercer, in Springport Cemetry on the following Friday.  The Shelly-Odell Funeral Home was in charge if arrangements. [13]
 
Lloyd E. Mercer - husband of Altha May McDonald:
Lloyd E. Mercer was born in Stark County, Ohio, on November 26, 1899.  He moved to Springport, Michigan as a child.  On November 2, 1924 Lloyd married Alth May McDonald in Springport.  He was employed for nineteen years by the Springport Telephone Company.  In 1964, Lloyd retired from the Decker Manufacturing Company of Albion, Michigan after fourteen years of service there.  Lloyd also served as the Springport village clerk from 1937 to 1960.  His wife, Altha, was elected to the post to succeed him.  He also served on the Springport School Board for nine years and was an honorary member of the local volunteer fire department, with whom he was active for forty-seven years.  In later years he was a member of the Senior Citizens Club and the Jackson Citizen Patriot Golden Wedding Club.  Lloyd E. Mercer died in Eaton Rapids Community Hospital on Wednesday, January 21, 1976.  Services were held on Friday at the Patience-Montgomery-Kerwin Funeral Home. [14]

Myron C. McDonald was born to George and Jessie McDonald in Springport, Michigan on November 26, 1915.  He graduated from Michigan State University.  Myron married June Louise Nelson in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1937.  After graduation, Myron went to work for the McCann-Erickson advertising agency in Detroit.  In 1951 he was promoted to the level of vice-president.  Myron was named the head of the agency's account service group for Buick Motor Division in 1958.  Continued success with the firm had him moving his family to New York in 1959.  By 1968, Myron was chairman of the board at the Jack Tinker and Partners agency.  on May 2 he was the speaker at the Advertising Club of Indianapolis.  A 1969 article in the Los Angeles Times, written by Martin Rossman, focused on Myron's reflections of the advertising industry's agengy-client relationship.  In 1970, Myron published his memoirs of life growing up with his grandmother in the 1920s and 1930s.  That manuscript was later edited and published by Dorothy May Mercer as "He Called Her 'Hat': That Tough Little Lady, My Grandmother" and is currently available from select online bookstores.  After retirement, Myron and June relocated to the Tucson, Arizona area where he wrote several letters to the editor of the Arizona Daily Star newspaper over the remaining years of his life.

Myron C. Corey died in Arizona on September 14, 2001.  A private service was held with the East Lawn Palms Mortuary in charge of arrangements. [15]
 
June Louise Nelson - wife of Myron C. McDonald:
June Louise Nelson was born to Richard and Hazel (Eness) Nelson on July 31, 1913 in Michigan.  She appears with her family in the 1920 census.  In the 1930 census she is living with her mother and brother, Kenneth, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Her father had died in 1927.  June graduated from Michigan State University where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and the Beta Alpha honorary art fraternity.  She married Myron C. McDonald on November 13, 1937 at St. Mark's chuch in Grand Rapids with the Rev. Ralph Higgins officiating in front of fifty guests.  Noreen Asorge was her sole attendant and her brother gave her away in marriage.  June and Myron later had a son and a daughter.

June died in Arizona on Tuesday, November 7, 2000.  A private service was held with the East Lawn Palms Mortuary in charge of arrangements. [16]

Norma L. McDonald was born to George and Jessie (Corey) McDonald in Springport, Michigan on December 13, 1923.  she was a life-long resident of the Springport area.  Norma worked for a couple of years at the Hates-Albion Corporation before settling in and a homemaker and farmer's wife.  She married William W. Collier in Springport on January 30, 1948 and they had two sons and three daughters.  Norma enjoyed fishing, gardening and working with flowers.

Norma Louise Collier died on Friday, October 28, 1994 in Foote Hospital, Jackson, Michigan.  Visitation was held on Sunday at the Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapel in Albion.  Services were on Monday in the Clarence Center Cemetery with the Rev. Tom McLane officiating. [17]
 
William W. Collier - husband of Norma L. McDonald:
William W. Collier was born on August 10, 1924 to Wayne and Frieda Collier in Springport, Michigan.  William married Norma McDonald in 1948.  He owned and operated a dairy and grain farm north of Albion, Michigan for nearly 50 years.  William served in the National Guard in order to follow his passion as a farmer.  He loved life working outside, tilling the earth and tending to his cows.  He enjoyed auctions, tractor pulls, playing cards, dining out, mowing grass, and spending winters in Florida.

William W. Collier died on August 10, 2015.  A reception was held for friends in honor of Bill's life on September 2, 2015 at the Springport VFW.  A buffet dinner was served by the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. [18]

William Charles Corey was born in Springport, Michigan on February 26, 1892.  On April 9, 1909 he married Lois Nina Boatman in Sandwich, Ontario, Canada.  William appears in the 1930 census living in Three Rivers, Michigan with Lois and their children.  His listed occupation was manager of a clothing store.  He later moved the family to Coldwater, Michigan where he owned and operated a Red Goose Shoe Store for several years.  He also had shoe stores in Three Rivers and Springport, Michigan.  He later managed Allison's clothing store in Coldwater for thirteen years.  William was a member of the Coldwater Chamber of Commerce and the Elks Lodge No. 1023.  He was a 32nd degree Mason and belonged to the Shrine of Moslem Temple in Detroit.  He was also a ember of the Knights Templar in Charlotte, Michigan.

William C. Corey, Sr. died on Sunday, July 17, 1955 in the Coldwater Community Health Center.  He had been admitted to the hospital only five days prior with a heart ailment.  Funeral services were held on the following Tuesday at the McConkey-Putnam Funeral Home in Coldwater, with the Rev. Charles F. Parsons officiating.  Burial followed the services in Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater. [19]
 
Lois Nina Boatman - wife of William Charles Corey
Lois Nina Boatman was born to Frank and Mary Ann (Arnold) Boatman on July 15, 1888 in Michigan.  She appears in the 1900 census living with her grandparents.  Lois married William C. Corey in 1909 and they had five children.  She died on January 11, 1982 and was buried with William in Oak Grove Cemetery. [20]

Theo M. Corey was born to William and Lois (Boatman) Corey around 1912.  She appears in te 1920 and 1930 census records with her family.  Theo married Marlie Waldo Drew on June 5, 1932, but they divorced in 1939.  She married Robert B. Smith in Bryan, Ohio on July 20, 1939.  They lived in Battle Creek, Michigan after the wedding, but later moved to the Newark, Delaware area.

Theo M. Smith died from pneumonia on Wednesday, March 3, 1982 at her home in the Marydale Retiement Village near Newark.  A calling for friends was held on Friday evening at the Willam J. Warwick Funeral Home in Newark.  She was buried in Gracelawn Memorial Park, in New Castle, Delaware on Saturday. [21]
 
Marlie Waldo Drew - first husband of Theo M. Corey
Marlie Waldo Drew was born to John and Myrtle (Corwin) Drew on April 19, 1910 in Michigan.  He married Theo M. Corey on in 1932.  They divorced in 1939.  Marlie was a salesman.  He died on January 19, 1998 in Houston, Texas. [22]
 
Robert B. Smith - second husband of Theo M. Corey
Robert B. Smith was born to Byron and Elfa (Jones) Smith in 1911 in Michigan.  He married Theo M. Corey in 1939.  Robert was a draftsman-die maker for the Westvaco Corporation for thirteen years before retiring in May of 1976.  Robert died on Monday, December 5, 1977 in the Newark Emergency Center, near his home in Delaware after a long illness.  A calling was held for friends at the William J. Warwick Funeral Home on Wednesday evening.  Services and burial were private. [23]

Jeanne Madeline Corey was born to William and Lois Corey around 1917.  She married James R. Kornstein on March 27, 1943 in Colwater, Michigan.  The wedding was described as "one of the most colorful social events of the season" with over 300 people attending the ceremony.  They, however, soon divorced.  Jeanne later married Roy Oakes and they had a daughter.  Jean was a homemaker while the family lived in Dearborn Heights, Michigan.  In 1973, she and Roy moved to Tavares, Florida.  Jeanne died in Florida on December 16, 1986.  Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Directors handled the local duties while the Stanley Turowski Funeral Home, in Dearborn Heights, made final arrangements. James Robert Kornstein - first husband of Jean Madeline Corey
James Robert Kornstein was born on June 26, 1916 in Michigan to Joseph and Vivian Kornstein.  He graduated from Coldwaer High School in 1933.  After high scool James worked as a bookkeeper for the Coldwater Brass Company before enlisting in the U. S. Army in 1941.  James married Jeanne Madeline Corey in 1943 in Coldwater.  At the time of their weddding, James was a sergeant major in the office of the commandant of students at the Harlingen (Texas) army gunnery school.  They later divorced and James then married Dorothy E. Childs in 1947 in Sacramento, California.  Dorothy and James divorced in December of 1968.  James Robert Kornstein died on August 13, 1988 in Mesa, Arizona. [25]
 
Roy Oakes - second husband of Jean Madeline Corey
Roy Oakes was born on August 12, 1913 in Burlington, Ontario, Canada.  On August 22, 1934 he married Catherine Marshall in South Bend, Indiana.  He later married Jean Corey.  Roy was a service engineer at the Ford Motor Corporation.  After he retired, he and Jeanne moved to Tavares Florida, near Orlando.  Roy Oakes died on February 1, 1990 in Florida.  Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Directors handled the arrangements. William Charles Corey Jr., was born to William and Lois (Boatman) Corey in Springport, Michigan on October 30, 1918.  William moved to Coldwater as a youth and graduated from Coldwater High School.  He married Marjorie Elizabeth Kibbe in 1943 in Coldwater.  During World War II he served in the U. S. Army.  After the war, William worked for Firestone Tire Company and Allison Clothing Store, both in Coldwater.  In 1959 he purchased Perry Clothing store in Coldwater and changed the name to Corey's-Best Men's wear.  He closed that store when he retired in 1983.  William was a member fo the Coldwater Country Club, Elk's Lodge 1073, the Masonic Lodge, the Shrine Lodge, IOOB American Legion and the Lions Club.

William C. Corey, Jr. died on Thursday, January 24, 1991 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, after a short illness.  Services were held the followning Monday at Putnam Funeral Home in Coldwater, followed by burial in Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater. [27]
 
Marjorie Elizabeth Kibbe - wife of William Charles Corey Jr
Marjorie Elizabeth Kibbe was born on October 12, 1923 to Frederic and Beatrice (Ryan) Kibbe in Coldwater, Michigan.  She graduated from Coldwaer High School in 1941.  Marjorie taught dancing to students in Coldwater, where she operated several studios over the years.  She married William C. Corey, Jr. on August 28, 1943 and they had a son and two daughters.  Marjorie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Coldwater.  In 1965, she earned a degree in licensed practical nursing and then worked with Drs. Baco and Bailey until she retired in 1972.

Marjorie E. (Kibbe) Corey died on Wednesday, January 1, 1997 in the Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater, after a long illness.  Private funeral services were held in Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater with the Rev. James C. Troust officiating.  Putnam Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. [28]

Mary Anne Corey was born to William and Lois Corey on March 22, 1924 in Springport, Michigan.  She graduated from Coldwater High School in 1942.  About a year later Mary Anne was in a car accident that caused head injuries.  She was driving Jeanne's (her sister) car after Jeanne's wedding and the vehicle left the road on U.S. 112 about seven miles west of Coldwater.  Apparently Mary Ann recovered because on May 27, 1944, a little more than a year after the accident, she married Elmer Frederick "Fritz" Van Aken in Saint Peter's Epsicopal Church in Santa Maria, California.  Mary Anne was a floral designer and part-owner of Van Aken flowers in Coldwater.

Mary Anne died on Saturday, December 25, 1999 in the Community Health Center of Branch County after a long illness.  Funeral services were held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Coldwater, where Mary Anne was a member, on the following Tuesday. Elmer Frederick Van Aken - husband of Mary Ann Corey
Elmer Frederick "Fritz" Van Aken was born to Warner and Gladys (Sapp) Van Aken on December 2, 1922 in Coldwater, Michigan.  He married Mary Ann Corey in 1944 while enlisted in the U. S. Army and stationed at Camp Cooke in Santa Maria, California.  Fritz was employed in his family's business, Van Aken's Flowers, in Coldwater, Michigan.  From 1972 - 1982 he worked for Kinler's Flowers in Montpelier, Ohio.  Fritz was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Coldwater.  He was also a member of the American Legion Post, the Noon Rotary Club, the Shrine Club and Tyre Lodge 18, F&AM, all in Coldwater, as well as the Rotary Club in Montplier.

Elmer "Fritz" Van Aken died in the Laurels of Coldwater on Sunday, January 21, 2001.  Funeral services were held the following Thursday at St. Mark's Church with the Rev. Stephen Bartlett officiating.  Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery. [30]
